Job Description:
EXECUTIVE EDITOR, Technology Review, to lead editors and journalists in the newsroom and act as the right-hand person to the editor-in-chief, helping to translate an ambitious editorial vision for Technology Review into reality. Will supervise writers and other editors with the day-to-day commissioning, writing, and production of print and online content; create and monitor metrics for the editorial department’s performance; help the editor-in-chief ensure close collaboration between editorial and other teams (especially design, product development, audience development, and circulation/marketing); participate in personnel, recruiting, hiring, and budgeting decisions; and help set goals and inspire the newsroom to find ways of meeting them.

Job Requirements:
REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; at least eight years’ journalistic experience including at least four years in managerial/editor roles; experience in science and/or technology journalism, working in a daily print newsroom or on a digital news platform with daily/continuous news production schedules; extensive experience and deep understanding of the digital media landscape, including emerging technologies and platforms; experience producing content in a variety of digital media forms (text, interactive, video, podcasts, etc.); proven experience leading a team of at least ten journalists and editors, including editing stories, setting coverage priorities, giving feedback, and setting and monitoring performance metrics; experience collaborating with developers to create editorial products for a newsroom and working with diverse teams across a company to communicate editorial priorities and promote inter-team collaboration on shared goals; solid understanding of and experience implementing social media best practices; recruiting and hiring experience; excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills; and experience with organizational change management.
