FISCAL OFFICER, Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS), to provide financial oversight of the department’s operating budget and assist the administrative officer (AO) with strategic financial planning. Primary responsibilities include managing the financial activities of the department; tracking and forecasting commitments; handling graduate student funding; providing financial analysis and oversight; preparing reports for senior administrators; and performing other ad hoc duties as needed. Will serve as the primary information and operations resource for principal investigators (PIs) in the development and submission of their research proposals; interact with PIs to develop research proposal budgets and all administrative content; perform post-award administration; monitor the financial performance of active grants and contracts and provide monthly updates to Pls to verify the proper distribution of resources and use of funds; and act as the primary liaison between BCS and the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) to ensure compliance with MIT and sponsor policies through the life of the award, including the close-out period. Will report to the administrative officer.
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; at least three years’ accounting or finance experience; high-level proficiency with Excel and familiarity with other Office products; strong customer service orientation; excellent organizational and communication skills; attention to detail; and ability to work independently. Supervisory experience and experience with federal contracts and/or financial administration experience in an academic research environment preferred, particularly with research proposal processing and pre-award administration. Experience with all aspects of post-award administration also preferred. MIT experience highly desirable. Knowledge of enterprise financial systems, grants management tools, and multidimensional databases a plus. Job #15331-P
