Posting Description

STAFF ACCOUNTANTMIT Federal Credit Union (MITFCU), to assist with the month-end closing process, daily/weekly general ledger accounting transactions of third-party accounting/core processing systems, financial reporting, and other accounting-related tasks.  Responsibilities include contributing to the daily and month-end general ledger (GL) closing processes by preparing daily entries and analyses, posting to the GL system, and producing financial reporting; participating in accounting for the investment portfolio; acting as primary backup for accounts payable, including assigning accurate GL accounts, posting entries, issuing checks, mailing, filing, and other related duties; participating in accounting for fixed assets and prepaid/accrued expenses on GL system, set-up, processing, and reconciling accounts; preparing various month-end reports and contributing to the coordination of the monthly board of directors package; participating in the regulatory reporting process; preparing ad-hoc reports and schedules as necessary; monitoring and balancing various suspense accounts in the GL; handling bank reconciliations and other assigned GL accounts; preparing and gather requested documentation for audits; acting as backup for other staff accountants; demonstrating working knowledge of BSA/AML policies and procedures and implementing as necessary; and performing other duties as requested.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in a related field; at least one year of accounting, finance, or financial operations experience, preferably in a credit union/bank/public accounting setting; knowledge of accounting principles and relevant federal regulations for specialty areas, including those specific to research and nonprofit organizations; strong accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP; ability to work with various general ledger accounting systems (preferably Prologue) and to handle a variety to tasks simultaneously; meticulous attention to detail; and familiarity with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Word).  Job #24974-6
