LEARNING DESIGNER, Office of Digital Learning-Teaching Systems Lab, to join the innovation incubator for the Woodrow Wilson Academy for Teaching and Learning, a competency-based, teacher education program that will be launching in June 2017. Will work collaboratively with teams from both WW Academy and MIT to support the development of teacher education program in STEM fields, with a particular focus on developing PK12 teachers who can bring to life MIT’s “hands-on, minds-on” approach. The primary role will be creating high fidelity prototypes of diverse learning experiences that later can be scaled and deployed by the Academy. Responsibilities will include applying cognitive/learning sciences principles to the design of learning experiences and assessments; researching high quality teacher practices of 6-12th grade math, biology, and chemistry; collaborating with both pre- and in-service teachers to design performance-based assessments; and working with researchers to conduct iterative testing of curriculum.
REQUIRED: a minimum of a master's degree in learning sciences, instructional design, cognitive psychology, or related area; experience with rapid prototyping, systematic design, agile development processes, and design-based research; experience working with pre- and in-service teachers, including development of materials for a post-secondary audience; K-12 teaching experience, preferably with secondary STEM; experience creating learning experiences at scale that go beyond online courses (e.g., educational games, hands-on activities, interactive media, etc.) to be used by educators; experience creating innovative types of assessment (e.g., performance-based, game-based assessment); experience working with various types of learning technology including learning management platforms (e.g. Canvas, edX); excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and strong problem solving skills.
