Posting Description

RESEARCH LABORATORY OPERATIONS MANAGER, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research - Yilmaz Lab, to manage the operations of a research lab including oversight of budget, personnel, and facilities. In close collaboration with PI and other lab members, will also participate in and/or oversee research activities of the lab. Responsibilities also include maintaining and overseeing protocols and practices for animal research and laboratory safety; serving as primary contact for all laboratory staff including undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral associates; managing lab operations and developing new systems and processes to help improve laboratory operations; troubleshooting issues in the lab and develops solutions to address problems; and managing laboratory budgets, including following resource allocation for general supplies to keep in line with proposed budgets, maintaining records on individual lab members spending to keep those purchases in line with proposed budgets, and working with MIT financial officers to keep budgets in line.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field; a minimum of five years of experience working in a large research laboratory (which may include some experience gained as an undergraduate); supervisory experience; strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills, technical/scientific writing skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a diverse team of graduate students, postdocs, research staff, and the ability to promote collaboration and cooperation among teams; experience in budget management, project management, time management and planning skills; proven problem solving and organizational skills; and robust computer experience with Microsoft Office suite. PREFERRED: Advanced degree in related scientific field; experience with or willingness to learn new laboratory management software.
