Posting Description

RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE 2, Civil and Environmental Engineering, to support ongoing experimental research in the area of soft tissue mechanics and biomedical diagnostics. The lab focuses on the development and application of novel techniques for characterizing soft biological materials, with special emphasis on needle-based methods for in-vivo and ex-vivo testing. Research in this group spans work conducted on MIT’s campus and in collaboration with clinical partners at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. Will be responsible for Lab Operations such as maintaining lab cleanliness, safety compliance, and equipment (e.g., syringe systems, load frames); serving as co-EHS representative and manage scheduling and upkeep; Experimental Support such as assist with setup and execution and coordination of soft material and tissue tests; documenting and helping analyze experimental data; Design & Fabrication such as collaborate with researchers to build custom test rigs using 3D printing, laser cutting, and machining tools; Biological Materials such as support studies involving blood and human tissues in coordination with hospital partners; and follow biosafety protocols.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: A High School diploma or its equivalent. PREFERRED: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biology or related science field (or equivalent experience); a minimum of one year of prior bench research experience; and experience with experimental mechanics, soft tissue testing, CAD (e.g., solidworks),and prototyping tools, exposure to academic or clinical research.

This is a one-year position with the possibility of extension.
