Posting Description

DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES, Media Lab, will ensure the Media Lab community has appropriate facilities to support successful research operations. The facilities team is responsible for day-to-day physical operations of Lab facilities, including long term space planning, renovation oversight, space management, security, administrative support, maintenance and repair, and research support in addition to providing scheduling oversight for six event spaces. Responsibilities will include: provide leadership, supervision and professional development for a team of four in the day-to-day facilities operation of the Lab; collaborate with faculty, students, and staff both in the Media Lab and across campus to create a productive physical environment at the Lab; develop strategic long-term space plans to guide smart capital investments and future renovation decisions; serve as the Owner’s Rep for the Media Lab to design and execute renovations; develop and implement solutions to facilities-related issues derived from research operations, including but not limited to equipment installations, large assemblies, suspension and working at height, lab organization, safety, and general utilities; manage space-related data and provide information on space usage; mentor and collaborate with scheduling staff who coordinate logistics for roughly 300 events/year; and ensure scheduling team is able to monitor event details for safety, security, and compliance.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of five years of experience with laboratory and interior renovations/project design and development in fast-paced, creative environments; excellent written and verbal communication skills; be comfortable in a highly diverse and international environment and be able to build and sustain productive working relationships with a wide range of people; and ability to adapt to new ideas and circumstances while proposing creative solutions. PREFERRED: Experience with MIT buildings and systems. Job #25106-10

This is a hybrid position, with 3 days a week, or as needed, required onsite in Cambridge, MA.
