Posting Description

RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE 2, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering-McRose Lab, to join a multidisciplinary group studying microbial physiology, secondary metabolite production, and plant-microbe interactions, focusing on small molecule exchanges among and between plants and microbes using techniques from microbiology, molecular biology and geosciences. Responsibilities will include bacterial culturing and plant cultivation, bacterial genetic transformations and screens, running liquid chromatography mass spectrometry samples, and ordering supplies as well as assisting with general instrument maintenance and lab upkeep. This position will provide opportunities to conduct independent research and co-author papers.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: High school diploma or its equivalent; prior exposure to research lab and basic knowledge of general laboratory practices and procedures; demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot methods and experiments, to think critically about results, and to draw from existing methods and literature; high level of independence, motivation, and organization; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to work collaboratively; ability to multi-task and move projects forward quickly and efficiently; and experience with microbial culturing and genetics. PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry or related science field and experience with mass spectrometry, microscopy, or plant biology. Job #24982-4

Given the nature of the research, some weekend work will be needed to maintain cultures.

This is a one-year position with the possibility of extension.
