MECHANICAL ENGINEER, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), to join the PSFC Engineering Group, a team of approximately 35 designers, engineers, and technicians who enable large-scale scientific and engineering research capabilities in a dynamic research environment; report directly to the Chief Mechanical Engineer; and participate in the design, analysis, fabrication/procurement, assembly, and commissioning of novel scientific and engineering research hardware.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: A minimum of five years of professional engineering experience associated with complex scientific or mechanical systems; bachelor’s degree in mechanical (or closely related field) and five years of industry experience; working knowledge of vacuum, cryogenic, high temperature, gas, and similar common mechanical systems found in advanced scientific and engineering equipment; high proficiency in CAD software tools (e.g. SolidWorks) as well as the ability to utilize FEA and CFD analysis tools at the intermediate or higher level; experience in directing teams of engineers and technicians to accomplish complex mechanical tasks, including onsite verbal and documented work instructions; and ability to work and be present onsite at the PSFC full time. PREFERRED: Experience with fusion energy devices, particle accelerators, superconducting magnets, or similar systems; and an advanced degree. Job #24841
