Posting Description

SENIOR FINANCIAL OFFICER, Chemistry, to be responsible for managing financial activities; understanding the strategic and operational objectives; providing high level financial work (financial modeling, analysis, budget development, etc.); the direct supervision and mentoring of financial personnel; recruiting and training staff; conducting performance evaluations and promoting professional development for financial staff; acting as counsel to all staff on financial matters, including the detailed management of general accounts, gift/endowed accounts and sponsored research accounts; developing and implementing financial policies, procedures and process improvements; identifying operational problems and deficiencies and recommending solutions to the senior leaders; developing and submits the annual MIT budget narrative and detailed budget for submission into Nimbus; developing budgets and financial models; performing budget forecasts, projections and financial analysis; monthly and fiscal year-end closing processes; developing financial reports and forecasts that enable Senior Leadership to effectively manage finances; and frequently negotiating in complex and/or sensitive matters, influencing through formal authority.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; a minimum of seven years of experience in financial management; initiative; ability to prioritize multiple assignments, work under pressure, and meet deadlines; attention to detail; solid interpersonal, communication, analytical, and organizational skills; ability to solve accounting problems using sound accounting and financial management principles; advanced computer skills, including knowledge of and experience with centralized, interactive personnel, general ledger, and purchasing computer systems; and ability to work both independently and as a member of a centralized finance team. PREFERRED: Master’s degree; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, SAP, Cognos, Kuali COEUS, Quickbase; and experience at MIT and with its financial and accounting systems. Job #24654-10
