ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL REPORTING, Finance, Accounting, and Controls - Campus Services and Stewardship (CSS), will lead accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, financial integrity, and compliance; oversee the cost accounting framework for plant maintenance and construction, ensuring adherence to GAAP and MIT policies including managing the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, performing variance analysis, and supporting capital plan development; monitor financial performance; contribute to the budget process; and oversee AP, payroll, and general ledger activities for Facilities; provide strategic leadership in advancing CSS’s financial operations, collaborating with teams across MIT to optimize processes; enhance financial systems; and maintain robust internal controls.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a minimum of ten years of progressive accounting experience, including three or more years in a leadership role within facilities management, construction, or similar environments; proven ability to manage and develop accounting teams effectively, with solid interpersonal and communication skills; self-starter who thrives in dynamic environments, identifies improvement areas, and implements practical solutions; demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and deliver timely, accurate financial information; ability to develop high-level strategies while managing detailed tasks, with a willingness to be hands-on when needed; solid experience in internal controls, audits, and regulatory compliance; ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across the organization; advanced knowledge of accounting concepts, financial systems, GAAP, cost accounting, and financial reporting; proficiency with ERP systems, databases, spreadsheets, and other financial tools; solid analytical mindset for interpreting financial data and assessing cost structures; demonstrated organizational skills, discretion, and the ability to manage confidential matters effectively. PREFFERRED: Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or MBA; CPA; MIT experience; and knowledge of MIT financial policies, procedures, and operational systems. Job #24638-12
