Posting Description

RESEARCH ENGINEER 1, MIT Sea Grant College Program (MITSG), to work with a team of naval architects and electrical and mechanical engineers to develop shipboard power and energy corridor hardware; support and interact with the Electric Ship Research and Development Consortium (ESRDC) which brings together, in a single entity, the combined programs and resources of leading electric power research institutions to advance near- to mid-term electric ship concepts; participate in designing and building a prototype system, with the possibility of the development of modular electrical system racking modules and power electronics concepts; and accomplish design analyses, make presentations, prepare research reports, mentor students on related research projects, follow and possibly implement protocols, policies, and procedures.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering and a minimum of two years of related experience in a research environment, which may include experience as a graduate student; solid experience in designing and building mechanical structures as well as proficiency with 3D CAD software to fully develop planned designs before construction; and experience with electrical component and electrical cabinet hardware, with the ability to provide examples of construction experience with prototypes or other systems developed by applicant. This is a full-time, 2-year term position, subject to annual renewal.
