Posting Description

MUSEUM STORE ASSISTANT, Museum, to assist with the daily operation of the bustling MIT Museum Store, which provides earned revenue to support the MIT Museum’s mission to make research and innovation accessible to all. Will assist customers in the store, answering questions, sharing product knowledge, and making recommendations; ring up museum store purchases; retrieve, count, price, and store incoming merchandise shipments; assist with the organization and maintenance of two stockrooms; replenish store stock levels throughout the day; straighten displays; pen or close store cash register; and work within a team environment, providing support to and collaboration with colleagues.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or equivalent; excellent communication and customer service skills;; ability to work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision; ability to work in an ever-changing environment; ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, regularly and repeatedly lift up to 30 pounds, occasionally ascend or descend a ladder, and move about a crowded store and two stockrooms; good design sense and an understanding of basic merchandising principles; basic computer skills; to know, participate in and pass appropriate training and certifications programs, and follow relevant Environmental Health and Safety Requirements; to represent MIT and MIT Museum with professionalism, ethics, integrity, and mutual respect towards colleagues, internal and external clients, and visitors; and to demonstrate initiative, flexibility, openness to change, and accountability. PREFERRED: experience in specialty retail, hospitality, or museums and attractions; and experience with Counterpoint POS or equivalent. Job #24526-1
