Job Description

DIRECTOR OF STRATEGIC TRANSACTIONS, Office of Strategic Alliances and Technology Transfer (OSATT) Core, leads and provides strategic direction, cross-functional coordination, and oversight for the OSATT Core Strategic Transactions Team; manages and ensures faculty-centric development, negotiation and execution of complex sponsored research and collaboration agreements with industry, international and philanthropic organizations, as well as consortium agreements and other related agreements, that are in the best interests of MIT.                           

 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: J.D. and Admission to the Massachusetts Bar; at least 10 years of complex contract development and negotiation experience; significant management experience; familiarity with higher education, research institution or non-profit organizations; familiarity with intellectual property terms in research or license agreements; exceptional communication, drafting, and negotiation skills; proven ability to grasp complex legal and business issues; excellent collaboration skills with an exemplary customer focused approach; proven ability to work effectively in support of business development and/or research administration and technology transfer professionals. PREFERRED: High level of creativity, integrity, problem solving, decision making, and teamwork skills; demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of multiple stakeholders in a complex academic environment; management experience of 10 or more staff, teams of lawyers or legal professionals preferred; knowledge of academic research principles and research integrity policy (e.g. Conflict of Interest, IRB, IACUC, etc.); extensive knowledge of intellectual property law (e.g. copyright and patent).
