Posting Description

REPORTER, MIT Technology Review, to join a team of award-winning journalists and cover one of the most dynamic fields in journalism--the China tech beat.  Coverage will include industry, policy. and diplomacy and be the default source for coverage of the AI industry in China.  Will dig into chip production, drone and autonomous weapons development, climate tech, supply chains, and social networking.  It is a wide-ranging beat, but at its heart is always telling the story of the escalating competition and tensions between China and the U.S. via coverage of the industries that advance both nations’ interests.  The coverage will consist of a combination of a weekly newsletter, regular beat coverage, scoops, deep enterprise reporting, timely stories about major news events, and sharp analysis.   Responsibilities include producing stories that break news and cover the major events on the assigned beat; writing the weekly China Report newsletter; pitching a mix of shorter and feature stories; attending and contributing to regular news meetings; making skilled and creative use of storytelling techniques, including digital media; helping plan and contribute to special projects; and performing other duties as assigned.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; three years’ reporting experience in journalism, preferably covering China, chips, AI, or computing; interest in technology and its impact on the geopolitical landscape; ability to distill complex, sometimes technical, ideas into compelling stories and to come up with new ideas on a regular basis; track record of breaking news and/or providing insightful analysis on a beat; and excellent time management skills and ability to effectively juggle a busy workload.  PREFERRED:  Mandarin language skills.  Job #24373-7
