Job Description

TECHNICIAN B ELECTRO-MECHANICAL, Haystack Observatory, to support operations, maintenance, fabrication, and repair of many complex electro-mechanical systems. Work will include supporting electro-mechanical antenna systems, data acquisition systems, fiber optic equipment and networks, and cryogenically cooled receiver systems. Other responsibilities may include fabricating many types of cables. i.e., communications, RF, and fiber optics.   

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  graduation from a two-year technical school in electro-mechanical systems or an equivalent military training program; experience integrating and repairing electro-mechanical systems and equipment; familiarity with machine shop equipment and tools, general mechanical systems knowledge and experience with mechanical maintenance and assembly using hand and power tools; ability to use basic technician tools, i.e., soldering iron, DVM, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, etc.; comfort working with computer systems in a variety of configurations (Windows, Linux, embedded computers); ability to follow instructions and work in a technically diverse and physically challenging work environment; and demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team. PREFERRED:  working knowledge of digital and analog circuitry and experience; familiarity with machine shop equipment and tools, i.e., drill press, sanders, milling machines, lathe, and computer-based instrumentation; and experience with radar and radio systems or amateur radio.  Job #23978

Work conditions:  lifting weights of up to 50 lbs. as part of mechanical maintenance activities, climbing structures/towers, and performing duties at height

Must pass a tower climbing physical.

Must be able to occasionally work a flexible schedule as maintenance and operational responsibilities may involve working after hours, different and overtime shifts, weekends, and occasional holidays.

There will be occasional travel to field sites.

Must be a U.S. citizen who is able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
