Posting Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Chemical Engineering - Furst Lab, to join a dynamic team of researchers developing inexpensive water quality tests and diagnostics for human health, as well as the development of inexpensive materials for environmental remediation. 90% research and 10% general lab organizational duties, research focus will be 50% on the hardware and biochemical assay development for the tests and 50% on the development of remediation approaches. Will perform cutting edge research and contribute as a co-author to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Responsibilities include working closely with researchers at MIT and collaborators at other institutions to execute testing and remediation approaches. This will include hardware development and optimization, assay optimization and integration, biosynthesis of remediation materials, and their testing and optimization. The role will also include training at core facilities within MIT for materials characterization. Responsible for maintaining and reporting accurate records, including performing data analysis and presenting research findings at laboratory meetings. As experience increases, expected to initiate and recommend changes to manuals and procedures, and encouraged to co-author manuscripts and conference presentations. The candidate will receive ample training and guidance on our lab’s specific approaches before being expected to complete studies independently.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in STEM or related field; a minimum of two years’ lab experience (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate), with a strong knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, including pipetting, making dilutions, preparing buffers, and analytical techniques, such as spectrophotometry; strong record keeping skills; fundamental knowledge of chemistry; interpersonal and communication skills, a can-do attitude, willingness to learn on the job, meticulous attention to detail, and commitment to rigorous, high-quality research.

This is a one-year term position.
