Posting Description

EHS AND FACILITIES COORDINATOR, Materials Research Laboratory (MRL), to oversee the daily environmental, health, safety, and facilities operations in Building 13 and serves as the primary point of contact for EHS compliance and lab safety. Will act on behalf of the MRL Director and ensure compliance with MIT policies, coordinates emergency response, supports Principal Investigators, conducts inspections, and maintains safety documentation. Will also serve as the Chemical Hygiene Officer and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. Responsibilities include managing building systems, coordinating repairs and renovations, overseeing lab/office assignments, and analyzing space usage; collaborating with MIT Facilities, academic departments, and faculty, as well as supervising one administrative assistant.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least four years of experience in environmental, health, and/or safety compliance. Professional EHS certification required. Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Strong communication, problem-solving, administrative, and follow-through skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively and motivate teams; must demonstrate sound judgment, diplomacy, and adaptability, with a proactive approach and commitment to safety; ability to foster a safe, compliant, and efficient research environment through proactive support and coordination. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to learn specialized EHS systems is required. PREFERRED: experience in, or involvement with laboratory/research processes.
