Posting Description

INSTITUTIONAL SALES MANAGER, MIT Press, under supervision from the Director for Journals & Open Access (DJOA), oversees MIT Press engagement with the academic library market, including participating in and coordinating the MIT Press Library Advisory Board, representing the MIT Press at library conferences via speaking opportunities, attending and organizing panels at major library exhibitions globally, building relationships with major library consortia, and managing domestic and international institutional sales for all MIT Press products and services. Will serve as primary point person for all library contacts with the MIT Press; work closely with both the Journals and Open Access Director as well as the Sales and Marketing Director and Senior Marketing Manager to develop and refine messaging for this marketspace; act as the public face of the MIT Press towards the library market and speaks at library conferences; engage with library organizations on potential new models of support and promotes our current products such as Direct to Open; manage all aspects of MIT Press library sales operations; be directly responsible for managing all sales agents representing MIT Press overseas; negotiate all consortial agreements both domestic and international; with supervisor, craft and implement strategies for library sales growth and customer retention; and supervise inside sales associate.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of five years sales experience; outstanding written communication skills; exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities; excellent public speaking skills; strong business analysis skills; ability to identify opportunities and possible problems; ability to think both strategic/big picture as well as detail oriented; collaborative and flexible; and ability to work across multiple teams and interact with many departments at MIT Press.
