Job Description

TECHNOLOGY LICENSING OFFICER, PHYSICAL SCIENCES, Technology Licensing Office (TLO), to join the organization that evaluates, manages, and commercializes MIT intellectual property. Responsibilities will include identifying and assessing the commercial potential of new inventions; strategic management of intellectual property portfolios; marketing and identifying established or startup companies as commercial licensees; negotiating licenses and other intellectual property agreements; and working very closely with other TLO staff, including supervising designated technology licensing associates.  The position will also involve developing and maintaining productive relationships with inventors, MIT’s Office of Strategic Alliances and Technology Transfer (OSATT) Catalyst team and strategic transactions team, alliance managers, MIT’s Office of Corporate Relations, and external parties in industry and within the surrounding MIT and regional innovation ecosystem.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  B.S. in the physical sciences or engineering; seven years of direct experience in the engineering and/or physical sciences industries, including at least five years in a technical position involving activities such as marketing and technology licensing, product management and/or business development, and contract negotiation; excellent organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and verbal and written communications skills; attention to detail; diplomacy; and a collaborative approach to developing and maintaining effective working relationships.  Must be able to effectively interact with MIT faculty and students, departmental and administrative staff, attorneys, company stakeholders, and venture capitalists; manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively address complex business, legal, interpersonal, and inter-organizational issues; work independently and in cooperation with others; and exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of all work assignments. PREFERRED: advanced degree or MBA. Job #23311-12
