Position Description:

Every great life-changing discovery begins the same way—with new knowledge. It can change everything, from a single life to the future of entire communities. That’s why academic medicine, and the continuous pursuit of knowledge, is at the center of everything we do at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).

In the role of Research Associate I you will, under minimal supervision, use fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization to perform complex scientific research.

This role will be in the laboratory of Dr. William Drobyski in the Departments of Medicine and Microbiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin that is focused on transplantation immunology with a specific emphasis on the immunobiology of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation and the pathophysiology of graft versus host disease (GVHD).  Other areas of interest emanating from this focus include T cell and regulatory T cell biology along with inflammation induced by innate immune cells (macrophages, microglia, and dendritic cells).

Specific areas of interest include inflammatory cytokine networks that contribute to GVHD, inflammatory cytokine signaling and regulatory pathways that impact the development of tolerance, modulate anti-leukemic responses, and induce pathological damage particularly within the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system using genetically modified mouse models, flow cytometry, q-PCR, RNA-seq, western blot, single cell RNA seq, bioinformatics, and other immunological techniques. Recent publications include Journal of Clinical Investigation 2016; 126: 3541-3555, Blood 2018; 132(4): 435-447, Nature Communications 2018; 9(1): 5037; Blood 2020; 135(8): 568-581, Blood 2021; 137(9): 1241-1255, and Blood Advances 2022; 6(9): 2791-2803.
