Position Description:

The Research Data Scientist in the Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Institute for the Transformation of Medical Education (KI) designs, implements, develops code, maintains complex, and integrates data sources consistent with program, business, and research requirements and processes.  The role conducts statistical analyses and prepares results for dissemination in formal research and evaluation reports, and peer-reviewed publications.

Responsibilities:

  • Input, test and verify survey inputs into online data collection tools (e.g., Qualtrics and RedCap)
  • Works with project collaborators to perform analysis of moderately complex data sets and reports.
  • Designs and programs databases key to data integration.
  • Prepares access methods, validation checks and analyzes system performance following established standards and procedures.
  • Maintains data integrity by monitoring system security and access, performs periodic purges of unnecessary data. Develops back-up strategies and research and apply patches.
  • Analyzes, designs, creates and implements databases, including data models, logical and physical databases, data dictionaries and schemas, access methods, device allocations, validation checks, organization and security.
  • Works with SQL and open source applications, developers, consultants and end-users to analyze data requirements and resolves problems and advise on design recommendations.
  • Responsible for data management including cleaning, wrangling and preparation of data to facilitate research analysis.
  • Performs statistical analyses and modeling techniques (e.g., descriptive, modeling and psychometrics)
  • Help identify and design evaluation and assessment of curriculum

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

  • Knowledge of computers, electronics, digital media, databases, applications, software development, SQL, Linux, python, risk management, and information security.
  • Knowledge of quantitative research methodology to include the applied use of multiple and logistic regression analyses.
  • Ability to use PostgreSQL, R project / Python 2.7 or 3.6+ and SPSS and/or SAS.
  • Customer support, systems analysis, troubleshooting, problem solving, and listening skills.
  • Responsible for data management including cleaning, wrangling and preparation of data to facilitate research analysis
  • Performs statistical analyses and modeling techniques (e.g., descriptive, modeling and psychometrics)
  • Help identify and design evaluation and assessment of curriculum


Preferred Schedule:
Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm


Position Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3-5 years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, social sciences, or public health or related field or commensurate experience
  • 3-5 years data management/IT experience; merging large data sets
