Associate Dean, Continuing Professional Development


0.5 FTE Faculty Role



Champion the Medical College of Wisconsin’s (MCW) continual effort to develop our faculty and healthcare staff  to better serve our patients and communities. This individual will lead the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) office, transforming and providing strategic direction to achieve an integrated education and development program for the general and specialty needs of healthcare professionals within MCW, its affiliates, alumni and collaborators. They will continue to build and evolve an effective and efficient CPD office that promotes the education of MCW’s providers to meet learner and patient needs and supports quality improvement efforts of healthcare professionals.

Primary Functions

  1. Strategically apply expertise in learning to provide broad-scale integrated professional development solutions that support and sustain changes to organizational systems, behaviors and culture.

  2. Assist in strategic management and planning by utilizing continuous improvement techniques to leverage learning as a strategic asset.

  3. Identify educational opportunities that bring value to the organization, and oversee the design and implementation of a comprehensive program of services and activities that cultivate innovation, and build organizational and professional capacity.

  4. Lead the organization’s commitment as a learning organization by strategically directing the creation of inter-professional education that supports a Health Science University and includes opportunities for providers to role model professional development for residents and medical students.

  5. Promote a comprehensive systemic approach to leadership development and professional development that supports the well-being, retention, satisfaction, and success of all faculty and healthcare staff.

  6. Assess and translate patient and institutional needs into relevant learning opportunities through individual/unit/system development plans.

  7. Lead centers of excellence in innovation and CPD instructional design as a central resource for leadership, faculty and staff.

  8. Oversee and manage the human resources, administration, budget, and finances for CPD, including the management of grant funds when appropriate.

  9. Collaborate and liaison effectively with MCW leadership, department leadership, and Deans of all MCW schools and campuses to enable joint strategy, planning, and execution.

Be an active and thoughtful participant in institutional initiatives, meetings and committee work.  Ensure financial stability by conserving and using resources in an efficient and cost-effective manner across all MCW missions. Serve as an advocate for your area of responsibility as well as institutional priorities.  Develop and maintain professional affiliations.

Collaborates with (Titles): Dept. Chairs, Asst. and Assoc. Deans, Institutional and Departmental Senior Leadership



Minimum Required Education: MD or DO

Minimum Required Experience: At least five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in health care, education or another related environment with at least three (3) of these years in program management and/or administration in the area of faculty, career or educational development.


Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Risk Potential

Little or no exposure to hazards such as dust, fumes, or extreme temperatures, airborne or blood borne pathogens, extreme temperatures, or allergens.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.
