Job Purpose

McDonald’s is offering an exciting and unique placement opportunity for students looking to gain practical experience in our food supply chain from farm to front counter. McDonald’s in conjunction with their suppliers will offer the successful candidate training that will equip them with the knowledge and practical expertise required to successfully work throughout the supply chain. Our Progressive Young Farmers follow our products from the farms we use, through to our restaurants and get the opportunity to work with a number of different suppliers, farmers and stakeholders around the country. The programme also includes mentoring by a farmer who supplies us with beef, chicken, pork, dairy, eggs, potatoes or fresh produce.  


Principle Responsibilities

As a placement student in this role, you will receive a thorough overview of McDonald’s and the suppliers’ unique businesses.  You will gain experience of both business management and practical farming under the supervision of a progressive farmer. Throughout the placement you will be expected to undertake specific projects to gain a better understanding of sustainability and technical efficiency within the supply chain (food processing) and on farm. To follow our supply chain the entire way through, you will also spend a short period as a crew member in one of our restaurants. As a McDonald’s Progressive Young Farmer, you will be an ambassador for our brand and may also be required to undertake some communication activity.


You will be working within the McDonald's supply chain and will spend time with by an industry leading McDonald’s supplier and a progressive farmer. You will also have the opportunity to work with a number of different suppliers, farmers and stakeholders around the country.

Knowledge and Experience

What we’re looking for:

- Applicants should be eager to find out more about a career within the food supply chain or farming.

- Applicants will have good interpersonal skills and the ability to use their initiative and think innovatively to find practical solutions.

- Applicants will have a keen interest in the food supply chain and the ability to work alone as well as part of a team.

The details

  • This is a one-year placement with a £19k salary and holiday pay.
  • Applications are open from 12th October 2020 to midnight on 22nd November 2020.
  • Applicants should be full-time undergraduates studying at college or university within the UK or Ireland.
  • Applicants must be over 18 years of age with the legal right to work in the UK.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre on W/C 7th December
