The Corporate Communications Specialist / Associate supports the development and execution of internal and external communications strategies that advance the company's brand, reputation, and culture. This role works closely with others in the Corporate Communications team and collaborates cross-functionally with Public Affairs, Operations, Project Management, Business Development, Legal, Human Resources and Executive Leadership to deliver clear, accurate, and compelling communications across multiple channels. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with a curiosity for the energy industry and a desire to grow within a fast-paced, business-driven environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and proofread internal communications (emails, intranet posts, newsletters, talking points, announcements, and others).
  • Support development of external materials such as press releases, statements, website updates, and social media copy.
  • Monitor news and social media for relevant coverage, issues, and stakeholder sentiment; summarize findings for Executive Leadership through the development and distribution of daily Media Clips.
  • Maintain media lists, editorial calendars, boilerplates, and project message documents.
  • Gather information from subject matter experts across operations, engineering, business development, and commercial teams to develop clear, accurate content on deadline without errors.
  • Translate technical topics (e.g., pipeline integrity, safety, reliability, environmental compliance) into plain-language communications.
  • Develop videos, podcasts, presentations, one-pagers, fact sheets, and employee spotlights.
  • Serve on a rotating basis on the emergency response on-call team, drafting and securing approval for media statements related to 24/7 operations. Role requires after-hours and weekend availability as needed.
  • Manage administration of the Kinder Morgan Foundation, including grant tracking, application review coordination, donation reporting, and stakeholder communications related to community investment programs.
  • Assist in evaluating, customizing, and testing AI large language model (LLM) tools to enhance the communications team's research capabilities, writing workflows, and content production processes.
  • Job level will commensurate with experience and knowledge. 



Experience / Specific Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field
  • 1-3 years of relevant internship or professional experience in communications, PR, or marketing; demonstrated interest in oil & gas a plus.
  • Proficiency with AP Style
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams).
  • Familiarity with visual design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Completion of FEMA ICS-100 or ICS-200 training is a plus
  • Experience with AI tools
  • Curious and coachable; open to regular feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Maintains composure and accuracy under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Accustomed to rapid response communications.
