Terminal Manager - O'Hare

Full responsibility and oversight of a 24/7 third party bulk liquid terminal operation in Chicago, IL. Position would be responsible for all aspects of the terminal including the P&L, budgeting and employee and customers responsibility. This position will manage four operators, one admin.. The position will also work closely with the commercial and finance groups in meeting the objectives of the terminal.

 

MANAGE AS A BUSINESS LEADER

1. Secure and Grow Base Business (Increase service offering to current client base)

 2. Identify growth opportunities; execute 1 expansion project per year.

 3. Manage P&Ls to preserve operating margins and achieve EBITDA Targets

 4. Understand profitability of each customer and commodity

 5. Achieve 95% accuracy in forecasting (final week to actual)

 6. Develop competition and market understanding and develop business strategy to exploit both

 7. Develop and properly manage KPI and MOEs

8. Execute Quarterly Performance Meetings with Customers

9. Establish 72 hour planning cycle (review last 24, confirm current 24, forecast next 48)

 

ACT AS A RISK MANAGER

1. Identify abnormal operations and mitigate associated risk

 2. Understand facility limitations and prevent service failures

 3. Understand compliance requirements and prevent regulatory exceedance

4. Identify the appropriate time to move the risk to the next management level

5. Understand quality requirements of our customers and fuel supply delivered to the airport

 

ENGAGE AS AN EMPLOYEE MOTIVATOR

 1. Coach, teach and mentor direct reports to achieve established goals

 2. Develop a collaborative work environment which includes employees at all levels

 3. Effectively communicate and enforce standards across the workforce

 4. Effectively recognize employees for exceeding the standard

 5. Identify and address employee issues at the terminal level

 6. Identify and develop a plan to change or remove non-performers

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Management of employees including hiring, discipline process, employee performance reviews, the safety of employees and the management of safety programs.

• Participation and assistance in negotiations with customers and service providers to meet the goals of the Terminal.

• Growth and development of business internally and externally with the support of the commercial group.

• Facilitation and development of customer relations and service using a quantitative, quality based approach.

• Overseeing of service, maintenance and capital assets.

• Stays abreast of changes in working conditions or new technology that could increase the safety and efficiency of the operations.

• Initiates and supports improvement plans for employees to succeed in their efforts to achieve the goals of the department.

• Interprets and sets company policies on worker safety, safety regulations, company policies/procedures and work rules.

• Sets direction to improve handling methods, equipment performance, and quality of product handling.

Position Requirements: JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Industrial Engineering or 5 years or more working in related field required.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

• Master’s degree preferred

 

EXPERIENCE:

• Background and 5 - 10 years of experience in the bulk liquid terminal industry

• Strong project management skills.

• Prior experience in running liquid tank farm operations.

• Proven track record of managing an hourly workforce in an industrial setting.

• Prior experience managing customer relationships as it relates to quantitative service management.

• Solid knowledge of PC systems and related applications.

• Good organizational skills and ability to multi-task and properly set priorities.

• Detailed and customer oriented.

• Able to take initiative and work with others in accomplishing defined goals in a fast paced environment.

• Demonstrated leadership, analytical capability, strong communication skills (oral and written) and excellent organizational skills.

• Other related duties as assigned.

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• Posses and maintain a valid driver’s license, and driving record satisfactory to the company.

• Successfully obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card. (may not apply at all locations)

 

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Ability to provide structure and planning to meet the terminal and regional goals.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to climb outside stairs to tank tops.

• Ability to lift 50lbs hose connections.

• Ability to pass and maintain respirator fit test according to company policy.

• Ability to be an active member of the terminal emergency response team (ERT).

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Work inside and outside in all weather conditions.

•Ability to be reached and respond to emergencies 24/7.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

• Maintain accountability for self and terminal staff.

• Responsible for setting the expectations for the terminal and directing the culture for all employees at the terminal.

• Manage direct reports including, operations management staff, customer service and maintenance.

• Provide work direction for contractors and agency staff.

• Mentor team members to achieve larger roles in the organization.

 

OTHER:

• Successful completion of a drug screen and background check upon offer

Compensation:
$101,000 - $151,500
Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
