BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers’ storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually. The ERT Specialist role is responsible for ensuring Kinder Morgan’s EHS policies and procedures are effectively implemented in the field. The successful candidate will contribute to the region’s Drive to Zero through providing a strong, positive field presence that represents a visible example of the SQE culture that Kinder Morgan strives to achieve. This position reports to the Emergency Response Manager for the Gulf Liquids Area. Responsibilities of the Position Essential job duties include but are not limited to: - Respond to various types of emergencies, within the Gulf Area, and assume an active role in the incident command structure
- Participate & comply with emergency response training curriculum
- Participate in industry exercises and support Incident Management Team
- Ensure all emergency response apparatus are response ready
- Manage inventory, inspection & overall readiness of all emergency response PPE
- Update Kinder Morgan’s Incident / Emergency pre-plans & confined space rescue plans as necessary
- Assist in the planning, execution, and review of emergency response drills; perform gap analysis of emergency team training and/or equipment
- Track and document action items in reference to emergency drill/training critiques utilizing internal tracking system(s)
- Support new emergency response team member training, including KM’s emergency operating guidelines & procedures
- Ensure KM’s Fire Protection Systems are inspected, maintained, and in good working condition
- Facilitate emergency contingency plans & coordinate with facility operations & maintenance as needed
- Manage inspection & testing records for fire protection equipment
- Track fixed fire protection deficiencies until repair or replacement is completed
- Meet daily with Inspection / Testing / Maintenance contractor and administer work directives; as needed
- Act as On-Call EHS representative on a rotating basis
- Engage with regulatory agencies as needed
- Communicate to the Emergency Response Manager all known/discovered non-compliance or inefficiencies in Kinder Morgan’s Health and Safety practices
- Participate in EHS audits and assessments with Kinder Morgan Corporate auditors and government agency inspections
- Demonstrate behavior consistent with Kinder Morgan Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE) Program
- Participate in the EHS “Management By Walking Around” program
- Continually assist with developing standards, procedures and programs addressing safety compliance and other safety concerns
- Occasional travel required
Basic Qualifications (required): - High School diploma or equivalent
- 5 years’ experience in terminals and/or refining and industrial emergency response
- 24hr HAZWOPER certification
- CPR and first aid certified
- Working knowledge of fire apparatus operation (Example: pump/foam operation, DOT inspection, basic maintenance)
- Ability to successfully complete pre-employment drug screen and background check upon job offer
- Maintain a driving history satisfactory with Kinder Morgan standards, and its insurer
- Must have a valid Class B Exempt or CDL
- Must have a current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), or be able to secure it prior to employment
- While performing the duties of this job, the successful candidate must be able to stand, walk, sit, ascend/descend stairs, reach with reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and/or hear
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to complete tasks both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions
- Must be able to respond to all fire, rescue, HAZMAT, confined spaces, and medical emergencies
- Working understanding of NFPA standards & strong comprehension of OSHA and ANSI regulations
- Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, often under short or changing deadlines, in a diverse and fast paced environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Adaptable to organizational change
- Ability to work independently to prioritize and manage workload while providing timely turnaround on tasks
- Ability to work as a member of a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules
- Proficient in using MS Office Software features to effectively execute work tasks
Preferred Qualifications: - Technical training and/or a college degree is a plus
- Professional certifications (Example: TCFP / IFSAC, EMT, NFPA Hazardous Materials Training)
- Awareness & Operations / Technical Level Rescue Training: Confined space / High Angle
- FEMA: ICS National Framework Training
- 1081 Interior or advanced exterior firefighting certification(s)
