Provide technical support in all areas of pipeline systems with the primary responsibilities of managing pipeline integrity projects (In-Line Inspection tools and remediation, evaluation and repair of anomalies). The individual will be a technical resource to the region in support of pipelines and may support other operational activities. The individual must possess the ability to associate with a wide variety of people (personalities, skill and education levels, etc.) with tact, courtesy and professionalism. The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience and the position will be filled commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience. The preferred office location for the Pipeline Engineer is Kinder Morgan’s Mercer, PA location, but the position could office out of other Kinder Morgan locations within the Northeast based on business need, the candidate’s location and office availability; including but not limited to Pennsylvania, Ohio, or New York. The individual must possess project management skills used in the development of project documents (such as project scope, schedule, budget forecasting, cost tracking/analysis, and risk identification/mitigation). The candidate must be capable of communicating this information using well-developed written and verbal skills. Secondary duties involve multiple small pipeline and facility projects and engineering studies. Daily activities include:
- Working with Operations, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Accounting, Business Development, Gas Control, Land and Right of Way, Codes and Standards, and other internal departments to manage the tasks associated with In-line inspection tool runs and remediation projects to maintain and improve the integrity of the company’s pipeline infrastructure.
- Manage multiple capital and maintenance projects with various deadlines and responsibility levels. The majority of the projects will include pipeline integrity inspection, remediation, testing and repair projects.
- Generate project alternatives, cost estimates, secure project funding, accurately track and forecast project expenses, and submit project closure documentation.
- Develop project scope documents, schedules, contractors’ bid documents, manage the bid process including job showing, select contractor, select and requisition materials, coordinate permitting, and manage contractor and project activities.
- Apply the company's design and operating philosophy within the field locations to meet corporate goals for safety, regulatory compliance, efficiency, and profitability.
- Review and manage projects in terms of economics, OSHA Safety, Kinder Morgan Engineering Standards, Construction Standards, and Operating and Maintenance Procedures
- Provide engineering support to operations, as required.
- Effectively prioritize workload between multiple projects and the ability to take on new projects and shift priorities on short notice.
Education: - Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited University is preferred. However a minimum of seven years commensurate experience with emphasis in natural gas or petroleum pipeline design, project management, construction, maintenance, and repair may be acceptable in lieu of an engineering degree.

Working Conditions: - Travel estimated to be from 25 to 40% to field sites and offices with occasional overnight stays.
- The position frequently works under time constraints to meet deadlines and assure operational continuity and the candidate must possess the ability and willingness to work extended hours and occasionally weekends.
- This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (M-W in office, Th & F at home when travel is not required)
- Requirement to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
Certifications/Licenses/Registration: - Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to company and its insurer.
Physical Demands: - Effectively work outdoors in the Northeast U.S. climates while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (ex. hardhat, flame resistant clothing, safety glasses, and safety-toed footwear) for the location.
- Periodically climb ladders and stairs to elevated platforms/walkways
- Field activities will include assigned work in compressor facilities, on the pipeline right-of-way, and in meter stations.
- Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities and for driving to project sites.
Preferred Experience - Understanding of pipeline in-line inspection tools used to assess the integrity of natural gas pipelines and pipeline remediation and repair methods.
- Knowledge of pressure testing of natural gas pipelines.
- Knowledge of applicable pipeline regulatory codes, compliance requirements, and industry / engineering standards (e.g., 49 CFR 192 [195], ASME B31.8 [B31.3], ASME / NACE standards, etc.).
- Knowledge of natural gas storage facilities and treatment processes.
- Experience with high pressure natural gas pipeline construction and remediation.
- Experience conducting pipeline MAOP studies.
- Experience in investigation and root-cause determination of equipment failures
- Experience using AutoCAD or similar drawing software to prepare engineering sketches.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Advanced math skills.
