What your job will be like:

Are you looking to join a team that's making its mark on the scientific community? As an SRF Process Technician in the Accelerator Division, you will provide technical expertise to develop, define, and improve advanced SRF clean assembly practices to maximize the performance of cavities and cryomodules. Your primary focus will be coordinating with groups around Jefferson Lab to develop and document particulate-free assembly methods for ultra-high vacuum (UHV) components and systems in direct support of ongoing operations at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF).

In this role you will:

  • Develop detailed technical process requirements documentation for UHV particulate-free assembly processes of cavities, cavity strings, and related accelerator components
  • Troubleshoot process problems and identify solutions to improve overall quality
  • Lead and participate in process improvement projects
  • Perform mechanical assembly of cavity components in accordance with written procedures
  • Use residual gas analyzers to leak check cavities and associated vacuum systems
  • Assist in the design and fabrication of production tooling and fixtures
  • Apply and adhere to proper UHV practices as applied to cavity and cavity string assemblies
  • Apply and adhere to ISO-4 clean room protocols

Qualifications We Require: 

Education & Experience:

  • Relevant AS degree plus 7 years relevant experience or
  • High School Graduate with 9 years relevant experience or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

  • Knowledge of high purity cleaning and surface preparation techniques used in SRF production processes
  • Knowledgeable in the application of materials surface treatment processes used on SRF cavities and components
  • Able to plan, direct, and coordinate activities and resources in a manufacturing environment in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications
  • Able to work both collaboratively and independentyl to solve complex problems
  • Able to communicate effectively the results and challenges of on-going projects in both oral and written form
  • Able to train, coach, and supervise critical technique-dependent clean room activities
  • Able to contribute to multiple projects simultaneously

• Manual capability to pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers; seize, grasp, hold, turn, use hand tools and other equipment.
• Ability to safely wear ISO 4 compatible clean room suit for extended periods and have personal habits consistent with ISO 4 clean room work
• Must have the ability to qualify for work in radiation areas, chemical areas, and to operate an overhead crane.
