What your job will be like:
The Instrumentation & Controls Group (I&C), part of the Electrical Engineering Systems Department, is seeking a mid-level to senior level electronics technician. In this role, you will assist senior staff in the implementation, maintenance and repair of instrumentation and control systems using analog and digital electronics. Responsibilities also include printed circuit board testing and repair, soldering, field cable fabrication and installation, and troubleshooting and repairing various electrical systems around the accelerator campus. To be successful in this role, you will have working knowledge of basic hand tools, and display mechanical aptitude under supervision. Working in the I&C group, you will provide technical services to accelerator operations, Experimental Halls and other lab initiatives. Electrical systems under the I&C group domain include diagnostic hardware to detect electron beam profile, current and position. Electronic systems in vacuum technology and beam viewers are also utilized.

T/DII:
In this role, you will…

  • Be responsible for the organization and quality of their own work
  • Complete electrical/electronic based tasks of moderate complexity
  • Handle frequently assigned multiple tasks and accomplishes them simultaneously
  • Maintain knowledge of electrical theory, ability to use Ohm’s law to perform simple electrical calculations.
  • Be able to diagnose problems with analog and digital circuity to the component level using various electrical test equipment
  • Plan your own work for short term and intermediate assignments and can coordinate work with others in the group.
  • Provide real-time support of existing I&C systems
  • Follow guidance from supervisor or senior team leaders in installation and testing of I&C systems
  • Read electrical schematics to facilitate repair and maintenance of hardware
  • Follow guidance from supervisor to conduct electrical work on equipment in accordance with established safety standards
  • Use electronics skills to assemble, test and calibrate electronics within chassis assemblies or printed circuit boards (PCB)
  • Complete preventative maintenance tasks on electronics components and the associated mechanical assemblies
  • Participate in regular On-call schedules and emergency repair to support 24-hour a day operation of the accelerator.

T/DIII:

In this role, you will…

  • Be responsible for overall quality and schedule of their own work and those under their lead.
  • Complete highly complex tasks.
  • Be responsible for the planning and completion of multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Maintain the ability to identify schedule conflicts and provide solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of theory, design and techniques used at the component level.
  • Follow verbal and written guidance to diagnose, repair and calibrate analog and digital electronics modules.
  • Plan their own work for short term and intermediate assignments and can coordinate work with others in the group.
  • Provide real-time support of existing I&C systems
  • Follow guidance from supervisor or senior team leaders in installation and testing of I&C systems
  • Read electrical schematics to facilitate repair and maintenance of hardware
  • Follow guidance from supervisor to conduct electrical work on equipment in accordance with established safety standards
  • Utilize electronics skills to assemble, test and calibrate electronics within chassis assemblies or printed circuit boards (PCB)
