POSITION POSTED: DECEMBER 29, 2021 SALARY RANGE: $71,400- $112,800 (SCS I) The Accelerator Computing Environment Windows Systems Administrator serves as a primary Windows Administrator and Hardware Technician for the Accelerator and Engineering Divisions. This includes all aspects of Systems Administration of systems running Windows devoted to the control and operation of Accelerator Facilities (CEBAF, LERF, SRF and UITF) as well as the systems used in development and testing for these environments. In this role, the incumbent will be architecting solutions, managing resources, troubleshooting problems and leading projects that support and enhance the Accelerator Computing Environment. Your Role Will: Provide all aspects of Windows support and will perform the following tasks as his/her primary focus: Diagnose and resolve all levels of software, hardware, and operating system problems, acting as the primary support person for more than 400 Windows and macOS based workstations and laptops. Provide the primary technical expertise for the design and installation of new windows systems. Manage the requisition process for all PCs and their related hardware. Serve as the divisional Budget Manager for PC hardware and software. Install, support and track of a wide range of software. Provide domain administration for the Accelerator Division’s Active Directory Organizational Unit (OU). Provide logistical and technical assistance to the other administrators on tasks for Linux, macOS and Windows. Administer Windows and Linux Terminal Servers. Author user-level documentation and provide daily on-going user training. As a secondary focus, the individual will partner with other administrators in the following tasks: Assist the network administration staff responsible for the accelerator networks in their installation and management tasks. Support critical control room Windows systems such as the Safety Systems Scada workstations and standalone data acquisition systems. Support other operationally critical systems as directed by Accelerator Operations.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The ideal candidate will be highly knowledgeable in the system administration of Windows and OSX based computers and have some experience in the administration of Linux based systems. Extensive knowledge in workstation and server hardware installation and troubleshooting is required. She/he must be able to work productively as a member of a team as well as individually on self-directed projects. Demonstrated communication skills and experience in conflict resolution and time management is strongly desired since this individual will work with a wide variety of customers including Technicians, Computer Scientists, Accelerator Operators and Physicists. Finally, experience in programming is highly desired by not required. Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen.
