Position Description:

Position Purpose 

A Sr BI Data Engineer is a senior level ETL developer. Activities include: Provide project and team leadership, map source system data to data warehouse models, develop and test ETL processes, define and capture metadata and rules associated with ETL processes, adapt ETL processes to accommodate changes in source systems and new business user requirements. and to demonstrate work ethic that motivates and encourages others on their team. Sr BI Data Engineers are encouraged to bring fresh ideas, new perspectives, and an eagerness to learn modern technologies.  

Responsible for:  

  • Creating programmatic artifacts to extract, clean, transform, move, and load data into data lake, data warehouse and appropriate data mart.?Work with various stakeholders to identify and understand source data, source systems. Integrate with different source and sink systems. 
  • Developing and testing ETL jobs/pipelines, configuring orchestration, configuring automated CI/CD, writing automation scripts, and supporting the pipelines in production. 
  • Defining and capturing metadata and rules associated with ETL processes.  
  • Adapting ETL processes to accommodate changes in source systems and new business user requirements. 
  • Coaching junior engineers to help improve their code, use of best practices and their understanding of data engineering principles. 
Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:
  • 60% - Writing new ETL processes and test cases
  • 20% - Debugging existing ETL processes
  • 10% - Learning new skills
  • 10% - Helping with solution design and architecture
Nature and Scope:
This role reports to the Manager, Data Platforms

For Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City residents: The pay range for this position is between $120k and $180k. Starting salary may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. The Home Depot offers additional competitive financial and non-financial benefits, which may include a performance-based bonus program or a profit sharing program depending on position. This role has 0 direct reports

Environment:
1. Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Standard Minimum Qualifications:
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.

Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Additional Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in programmatic ETL job/pipelines using open-source technologies on-prem  
  • Experience in programmatic ETL job/pipelines using open-source technologies in the cloud or using cloud managed ETL products (Preferred) 
  • Experience building Batch and Streaming pipelines (Preferred) 
  • Experience in automated CI/CD solutions (Preferred) 
  • Experience in high-level programming languages such as Java and Python (Preferred) 
  • Experience in Google Cloud Platform 
  • Experience writing analytical SQL queries and in performance-tuning queries 
  • Strong problem-solving skills
