Position Description:
Position Purpose:
The Senior Data Scientist, Supply Chain - Network Strategy is responsible for leading data science initiatives that drive business profitability, increased efficiencies and improved customer experience. This role assists in the development of the Home Depot advanced analytics infrastructure that informs decision making. Sr. Data Scientists are expected to seek out business opportunities to leverage data science as a competitive advantage. Based on the specific data science team, this role would need to be Proficient in one or more data science specializations, such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search or NLP.

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will serve as a lead on data science projects, collaborating with project/product managers, providing prioritization of tasks, balancing workload and mentoring data scientists on the project team. This role is expected to present insights and recommendations to leaders and business partners and explain the benefits and impacts of the recommended solutions. This role supports the building of skilled and talented data science teams by providing input to staffing needs and participating in the recruiting and hiring process. In addition, Data Scientists collaborate with business partners and cross-functional teams, requiring effective communication skills, building relationships and partnerships, and leveraging business proficiency to solutions and recommendations.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

Long-Term Network Modeling

  • Identify creative approaches to meet high-level supply chain goals for flow, space, and efficiency
  • Build analytical models of strategic options to facilitate investment decisions – including research, model assumptions, development, and validation
  • Identify impacts of ongoing initiatives to cost and operational structure of our supply chain
  • Translate complex data into a cohesive ‘story’ to recommend strategies in support of strategic sales initiatives
  • Recommend location, capability, and space needed to meet the One Supply Chain vision of next-day delivery to 90% of US markets
20% Capacity Modeling and Store Moves
  • Provide high-level long-term capacity projections for platforms to guide network strategy recommendations (SDC, DFC, etc.)
  • Determine where and when we need new locations or additional space
  • Propose store moves opportunities for capacity mitigation and transportation savings
20% Real Estate and Roll-out Support
  • Evaluate all potential real estate sites for all platforms for cost and service implications
  • Revise strategy as needed based on real estate availability and cost estimates
  • Provide store and delivery service for all new buildings

Environment:

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 5+ years

Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Additional Qualifications:
Demonstrated proficiency in predictive modeling, data mining and data analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in quantitative field (Computer Science, Math, Statistics, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence and/or analytics
  • Experience in prescriptive modelling (operations research, optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, NLP, etc.)
  • Proficient running queries against data (preferably with google big query or other SQL)
  • Proficient in a modern scripting language (preferably python)
  • Proficient with data visualization software (preferably Tableau)
  • Proficient with statistical techniques to identify key factors and variables
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Executive communication and storytelling with data
