Position Description:


Senior Manager, Tax Reporting is an exciting and challenging role in a fast-paced Tax Department reporting directly to the Senior Director, Tax. The Senior Manager will have responsibilities for the reporting aspects of The Home Depot’s income tax accounting and reporting function. The scope of responsibility to include managing all aspects of the income tax accounting and reporting process under ASC 740. The position is responsible for leading and partnering with tax professionals and consultants in maintaining effective controls, maintaining compliance with tax laws, Sarbanes-Oxley and accounting policies, interfacing with corporate and business leadership as well as with external consultants, professional organizations and external auditors.


  • 60% Tax Planning, Accounting, Research, Compliance, and Audit Defense as needed to meet the goals of the Department. May serve as principal contact on one or more projects with governmental officials, outside counsel, and business partners. Lead special studies to determine tax implications of company operations. Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely filing of tax returns, and for the accurate statement of accounting reserves, including FAS 109 and FIN 48 where applicable. May serve as liaison between SSC and subsidiary businesses in the US and internationally.

  • 20% Participation on cross-functional teams as a subject-matter expert

  • 20% Coaching and mentoring of associates in the department

Reports to Sr. Director, Tax

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Additional Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 8 years

Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate technical tax skills appropriate for the years of experience in the one or more tax disciplines.

  • Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage and implement multiple complex projects, people management, and communications to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Proven analytical and problem resolution skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA, MACc, MBA or MTAX Preferred

  • 8-10 years of corporate taxation with at least 4 years experience working with a public accounting firm, or large US based organization.

  • Must have experience in income tax compliance and solid foundation or federal, state and international tax concepts with a strong focus on domestic tax

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communication clearly and effectively with peers and all levels of management

  • Strong analytical thinker with a flexible mindset and willingness to embrace change who also demonstrates good judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions

  • Collaborative team player with strong organizational and planning skills that can make sound decisions and deliver tight deadlines

  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to proactively drive engagement, inspire teamwork across staff function and business groups and deliver desired results

  • Ability to drive continuous process improvement and maintain effective controls over the tax reporting process

  • Proven track record of developing talent and improving performance to build a more effective team
