Come join a wonderful group of people who happen to be strong software engineers, analysts, data scientists and product managers. Director of Engineering is an experienced engineering leader who will lead a group of 30 passionate, talented engineers and partner with Product & Data Science teams to build tools that make business actions simple even from large data sets. BlackLocus’s data mining and machine learning pipeline, as well as user-facing applications, are built primarily in Java, Python, Go, and JavaScript. Our services and tools are entirely cloud-deployed. We build web and distributed applications in AWS and Google Cloud Platform with the bulk of our existing systems in AWS.This role reports directly to the GM of BlackLocus

Responsibilities:
  • Manage, coach, and mentor a team of software engineers and managers that continues to grow rapidly
  • Lead engineering recruiting efforts and scale the team with proper roles and structure
  • Execute a disciplined agile methodology and process;
  • Scale the team operations and drive efficiency with effective change management
  • Define consistent engineering standards and practices and reporting metrics;
  • Be the voice of engineering at BlackLocus and the broader Home Depot organization
  • Partner with leaders of product, data science, and support teams, and drive together cross-functional collaboration, such as resource prioritization, roadmap delivery, balancing short-term and long-term needs, operations alignment across teams
  • Foster relationships with Home Depot technology leaders and teams, and ensure compliance with security protocol
  • Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams where you will be a talent enabler by expanding our inclusive culture and mindfully growing our people.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Additional Minimum Qualifications:

 
  • 6+ years in managing engineering teams, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, process refinement to professional development and coaching
  • Experience leading strategy and aligning with cross functional teams on overall business objectives and goals
  • Effective, collaborative leadership skills and strong communication skill
  • Proven track record in encouraging innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and managing diversity.
Preferred
  • Extensive experience steering cross-functional agile teams in collaboration with product, data science, design, BI and support. 
  • In their own right be an accomplished and respected software engineer with experience with multiple languages, tools, and frameworks from the modern development stack.
  • Experience with Retail business
  • Experience with building Machine Learning solutions
  • Experience with bots and related technologies to retrieve information from the Web
  • Experience with building customer facing web applications
  • Experience with the cloud technologies, such as serverless architecture and AI platform OK
  • Experience with building APIs and event-driven architectures
