Within Biopharm Molecular Discovery high throughput Expression and Characterisation (HTEC) has responsibility for expressing, purifying and characterising antibody and bispecific molecules generated from our industry leading in vitro library and in vivo antibody discovery technologies. The Primary Pharmacology team in HTEC provides functional characterisation of 100s to 1000s of molecules, using a range of assay technologies.

As the Primary Pharmacology Team Leader, you will report to the Head of HTEC and be an integral member of the HTEC Leadership Team.
You will share our strategic vision to provide robust, biologically relevant data to our therapeutic area partners to drive program progression.
You will lead a team of scientists that uses state of the art assay technologies, laboratory automation and data analytics to deliver the highest quality data at scale and work closely with therapeutic area partners across our global organisation to align with and deliver their goals.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead a diverse team of primary pharmacologists by setting ambitious goals and delivering rich informative datasets to drive program decision-making
• Motivate and develop a talented team to reach their full potential  
• Help develop and deliver the scientific strategy for Primary Pharmacology, supporting the development of biologically relevant assays to screen at the 100s-1000s of molecules scale
• Support our learning culture by embedding a continuous improvement mindset  
• Influence the selection of biological assays by sharing our ambition to use assay technologies and lab automation to deliver robust, functionally relevant data for program teams   
• Embed imaging and high throughput flow cytometry as platforms for biological screening.

Why You?

Basic qualifications:

• PhD or equivalent in biological sciences with a strong track record of leadership in screening and profiling biological molecules.
• Strong in vitro pharmacology skillset with a passion for quantitative science  
• Demonstrated ability to answer complex scientific questions with exceptional experimental design
• Innovative assay developer with broad knowledge across target class, assay technology and lab automation  
• Experience of using DoE (Design of Experiment) as a tool to rapidly optimize assay method development
• Ability to influence and lead using data to support your proposals
• Strong line and matrix leadership skills with experience of building and motivating teams and developing talent
• Must be comfortable working in and influencing across a global organization
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and will display excellent interpersonal and communication skills
