Coherent Advanced Crystal Group is looking for a Senior Product/Process Development Engineer to lead a program for development of laser and/or nonlinear optical materials.  Person must have experience in leading edge materials research in an academic or industrial environment as well as experience and/or educational understanding of physical principles underlying laser systems and optical materials/crystals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and conduct engineering tests and detailed experimental testing to collect design data or assist in research work
  • Organize and write machine/process and qualification procedures
  • Assist in the design, construction, test and check-out of crystal growth and test equipment
  • Use manufacturing test, development or diagnostic equipment
  • Perform operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment

Education and Work Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters in materials science or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands on experience in at least 1 method of crystal growth with emphasis on techniques for congruent materials (Czochralski, Kyropoulos, Bridgman)
  • Experience with analytical equipment for optical/physical material characterization
  • Experience working from schematics, diagrams, written, and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions
  • Proven understanding of laser and nonlinear optics principles

Desired Qualifications:

  • PhD in materials science or related discipline
  • Hands on experience in various methods of crystal growth
  • Experience in materials preparation and synthesis
  • Experience using Solid works, Labview, Macros for excel
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong research analytical skills
  • Ability to multitask, organize, plan and write comprehensive reports
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and to interface with large teams, working across departmental boundaries
