    Job Description

    Arm Physical Design Group develops and provides memory generators products that are widely used in SoC (System on Chip) ranging from performance critical to cost sensitive and low power applications.

    The team that hosts this internship is the Design Enablement/Automation Team that implements CAD software solutions for memory generators development and validation.

    A memory generator is an executable software that builds on demand memory instances with user defined inputs like number of words, IO bus width and various generator options. Several hundreds of those memory instances are then embedded in SoC for various application with Arm cores (IoT, Mobile, Automotive, Infrastructure).

    Some of the generator’s options are about the internal organization of the memory array and others are functionalities of the memory. The impact of those options is on the resulting instance performance, power and area (so called PPA). Performance is a criterium that has always be met in SoC, but others like power and area are expected to be the smallest possible. The variety of the memory generators options makes their choice cumbersome and time-consuming when done manually.

    The internship consists of defining and implementing an algorithm that finds out the best options and instances partitions that always meet the required performance and have the best power and area. The high number of the inputs (generator’s options) is influencing a lot the turn-around time to get the best PPA memory instances defined. So, optimizing the runtime of the algorithm (design, implementation) is another a critical part of the internship, as well as Machine Learning methods to be explored.

    Job Requirements

    We are looking for:

    • A student in her/his last year of Masters (BAC+5 or equivalent)
    • In computer science or electronic engineering.
    • Available for a 5-month or 6-month internship during the first half of 2020

    The following skills are requested:

    • Knowledge of a programming or scripting language, typically C/C++ or Java or Perl or Python.
    • An engineering mind-set with strong problem-solving skills.
    • Creativity and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
    • Good interpersonal and collaboration skills.

    Other desirable skills include:

    • Use of a Linux environment and shell programming/scripting with for example bash, git, or make.


    Salary – 1750 euros / month

    Lunch vouchers

    1 day off (authorized leave) / month

    Internship duration

    5 to 6 months.

    About the office

    The staff at the Arm Sophia Antipolis design center is mostly focused on CPU design. Sophia Antipolis is a technology park that’s surrounded by a large national park, with wild boar that live within the city and can be seen strolling through the tech park. It’s conveniently located a quick 30 minute drive southwest of Nice, 45 minutes to Monaco, and only 20 minutes to Cannes.
