    Job Description

Would you like to be at the forefront of the exciting and emerging Internet of Things (IoT) sector?

We are looking for a passionate DevOps Engineer to build and support our next generation IoT platform. At the core of our IoT platform is our modern Operating System, Mbed OS, which is open-source and used by a large and fast-growing developer community. The Pelion IoT platform combines Mbed OS with device, data and connectivity management to provide a complete IoT platform. Based on these products and together with our thriving developer and partner ecosystem, we aim to disrupt the manner in which embedded devices are built and deployed.

You will drive this disruptive change in the exciting IoT sector by helping us to evolve and support the infrastructure required for Mbed OS and the Pelion platform. This will involve building the tools and services used by hundreds of thousands of users today. You will also be instrumental in designing the next generation systems that must be capable of scaling to keep pace with our continued growth.

Our DevOps engineers meet these demands by working with other passionate engineers in a large cross-disciplinary group of Web, User Experience and Embedded engineers. They play a vital and exciting role at the heart of this group by making sure our services are scalable, reliable and observable. DevOps engineers are multi-skilled and have the opportunity to rotate into other teams to gain exposure to a variety of products and technologies. The development of our engineers is core to our business. We have regular innovation days between sprints to encourage our people to develop new approaches and learn new technologies.

We are driven by data and metrics and our DevOps team encourage and drive insight into our Mbed services for both business and operational purposes.

    You will:

    • Develop and support a highly available and observable cloud platform
    • Act as a system design consultant to other teams, ensuring services are built with security, scalability, reliability and observability in mind
    • Have a passion for automating all aspects of configuration, deployment and delivery to reduce and eliminate manual effort!
    • Encourage an SRE approach to supporting live services by defining and monitoring key Service Level Objectives (SLOs)
    • Be a problem solver with the ability to work closely with development teams to diagnose and resolve operational incidents

    Job Requirements

    You will have:

    • Experience with containerisation and container orchestration (e.g. Docker and Kubernetes)
    • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP or Azure); experience of deploying Web-based applications on AWS highly desirable!
    • Ability to use and debug applications running on Linux Operating systems
    • Experience with infrastructure provisioning tools (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, Chef and Cloud Formation) and Infrastructure as Code (IAC) approaches
    • Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) systems (e.g. CircleCI, Jenkins) and related practices
    • Proficiency with a high-level programming language (such as Python or Go) to enable you to read and debug application code and to automate manual tasks
    • Interest in gathering and surfacing metrics to technical and non-technical partners
