Position Description:
Gatan, Inc. is the world's leading manufacturer of high quality instrumentation and software for imaging and analysis in TEM and SEM applications. We are currently seeking an experienced Senior FPGA Design Engineer for our imaging and analytical products who will be responsible for designing, developing and evaluating FPGAs for high performance embedded systems.  This individual will be responsible for working closely with the Software and Hardware groups to provide the FPGA designs.  This position will be based out of our Pleasanton, CA office.

The primary function of this role will be as a FPGA designer on complex, digital and mixed signal systems including architecture, FPGA design, hardware design, exploration of technology, system performance and specification to design and test.  The incumbent will also be responsible for defining system requirements and integration.

Position Requirements:

FPGA logic design with Verilog or SV, synthesis and layout
Experience with Vivado, Quartus and Questasim and timing closure
Ability to architect systems and hardware and map to requirements for FPGAs
Knowledge of high-performance board design and layout
Ability to architect hardware platforms and high-speed interfaces
Experience with DDR4+ and HBM and high-performance memory architectures
Experience with SoCs and microprocessor peripherals such as Ethernet, USB, PCIe, UARTS, I2C, SPI, Display, RS485, JESD204b and similar protocols
Experience with low noise analog design and ADCs
Strong comfort level working in a lab environment using digital embedded system debug tools (ICE, logic analyzers, JTAG, Oscilloscopes)


WAN, LAN, Sockets, TCP/IP communications
Working knowledge of bootloaders and getting new hardware platforms to run
Knowledge of image sensor data processing a plus


BS in Electrical Engineering from a four-year college or university, MS degree is a plus
10+ years of hardware development experience
