We are looking for a Senior Systems Design Engineer who will be responsible for designing electron-optical systems for Gatan's Analytical product line. This position will be based out of Pleasanton, CA.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Designs systems for Gatan’s Analytical product line.
Responsible for electron-optical design of key product components.
Provides multi-layered technical expertise for next generation initiatives.
Defines requirements and concepts for technical platforms, sub-systems and their interfaces.
Responsible for system specifications, including design verification testing and transfer to production.
Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses.
Influences the shaping of future products.
Provides technical support during new product integration and service escalations.

Position Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.

Candidate should have a strong knowledge of applied physics.
Experience should include working on instrumentation development with a strong optics background, preferably in charged-particle-optics, including the simulation of optical sub-systems.

Experience in imaging or spectroscopy applications preferred.

Hands-on experience in electron microscopy a bonus.

Must be an intermediate or advanced level user of Microsoft Excel.

Experience with any of JMP, Matlab, Python programming, Gatan Digital Micrograph scripting, Experience with charged-particle optics simulation packages such as Munro, Lorentz or Vector Fields a bonus.  Autodesk Inventor a bonus
Must be motivated by the technology and by the challenge of working on dynamic projects with tight timing constraints.

Must be able to travel occasionally, domestically and overseas.
