Accountabilities and Specific Requirements:

WORK LOCATION:  Anchorage/Fairbanks

SCHEDULE:  This is an Anchorage/Fairbanks based position on an urban schedule with a 40-hour week or 9/80 work schedule.

BAND:  R

Under general direction of the VP of Operations & Maintenance, the Director of Pipeline Maintenance is accountable for the following: 

 Accountabilities include:

  • Accomplish company performance goals in line with Alyeska’s vision, mission, and leadership expectations.
  • Identify and evaluate operational risks and structured management and stewardship of risk reduction measures.
  • Make risk-based decisions and increase organizational competency for making risk-based decisions in support of effectiveness and efficiency for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS).
  • Work proactively and collaboratively across organizational boundaries to drive system-wide efficiencies and performance improvements.
  • Evaluate key business challenges and opportunities to drive continuous improvement in operations and maintenance efficiencies and effectiveness and to identify and implement innovative operations and maintenance approaches.
  • Drive performance excellence by coaching, mentoring, and developing personnel to build organizational capacity and work execution for excellence.
  • Foster a positive work environment, systems approach, and disciplined execution of all assigned tasks that engages employees in achieving organizational goals and improvement priorities.
  • Maintain a strong collaborative relationship with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including APSC’s Executive Team, Leadership Team, federal and state regulators, industry partners, Owner representatives, and public officials.
  • Exemplify Alyeska’s Code of Conduct and Cultural Attributes and enforce the highest professional integrity, ethics, and safety discipline.

 

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicant must meet or exceed these minimum job requirements to apply for this position.

  • Demonstrated superior leadership outcomes (personally, at the team level, and organizationally).
  • Extensive industry knowledge specific to pipeline operations and maintenance best practices.
  • Knowledge and experience in emergency preparedness and response, particularly as relates to the Incident Command System (ICS) for oil spill prevention and response.  
  • Knowledge of Alaska-specific energy industry issues and concerns and TAPS operations and activities.
  • Proven ability to lead employees to implement business plans, achieve business goals, and drive positive performance outcomes through continuous improvement and innovative leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in managing budgets greater than $100 million.
  • Track record of creating and sustaining effective teams with demonstrated success in leading a diverse workforce representing a variety of professional and technical disciplines.
  • Superior risk-informed decision-making ability in complex environments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in Alaska or an arctic environment.

Education & Years of Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maintenance, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years of related experience with a proven record of accomplishment.


PREFERENCES:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Logistics
  • Four (4) years’ experience in supply chain management, or related business field
  • Experience using Oracle EBS system for financial and purchasing transactions
  • Advanced user in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

Position Description:

The Director of Pipeline Maintenance is an Alyeska Pipeline key leadership position supporting the overall reliable, safe, and efficient operation and maintenance of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS).  This position reports to the Vice President of Operations & Maintenance.  Responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of pump stations, pipeline, and Right of Way assets and leadership of a diverse pipeline workforce.  Responsibilities include management of emergency preparedness and response plans and assets along the pipeline corridor to meet company expectations and regulatory requirements.  The Director of Pipeline establishes and executes the long-range plan for the Pipeline Department in alignment with Alyeska’s strategic objectives.  The Director influences many expense and capital programs and projects and collaborates with other directors to ensure proper scoping, planning, funding, engineering, and execution of such programs and projects.  As a member of Alyeska’s Leadership Team (LT), the Director is accountable for financial performance that controls costs while meeting company goals, operational risks, and regulatory requirements.  The Director develops and manages relationships with government, labor and business leaders, and local owner representatives. The Director advises the company’s executives on current pipeline operations and maintenance issues along with risks and opportunities that impact long-range strategic planning.
