Job Description

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, School of Architecture and Planning-Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism (LCAU), to oversee all administrative functions of the center.  Responsibilities include developing and managing budget and financial projections; maintaining statistical data and producing reports for strategic planning; overseeing pre- and post-award administration of research, discretionary, and Institute funding; working with faculty to assemble, submit, and draft grant applications and proposals; collaborating on developing and maintaining relationships with sponsors and partner organizations; helping shape initiative/programmatic content in coordination with faculty stakeholders; implementing administrative aspects of programs, educational workshops, conferences, and events; handling human resources activities, including recruiting and onboarding and engaging and building inclusive environment for researchers, designers, faculty, and staff; supporting the faculty director with academic degree administration; facilitating outreach to affiliated and other MIT faculty to promote engagement; providing support to LCAU’s external advisory board; facilitating strategic and effective communication about LCAU’s research and activities; managing physical space occupied by LCAU; administrating the biennial Norman B. Leventhal City Prize and annual LCAU seed grant program; providing counsel and support regarding operations and other policy matters; and performing other duties as directed.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree, preferably in urban planning, architecture, or related field; five years’ program management experience, preferably in a university setting; excellent leadership, supervisory, interpersonal, communication, organizational, analytical, financial, and writing skills; advanced-level knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, and accounting principles; tact and discretion with sensitive/confidential matters; and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and shifting priorities and develop and implement program policies/procedures.  PREFERRED:  master’s degree and experience at and knowledge of MIT’s financial, human resources, and operational systems.  Job #23853-10
