Job Summary

We have the following opportunity available in our Manhattan Staff Legal Office:  

Trial Attorney - Liability

This self-starter will represent the company and insureds in all phases of litigation, practicing law in compliance with ethical standards as established by state law. Responsibilities include providing legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conducting pre-trial discovery, participating in judicial hearings, arbitrations and trials and conducting post-trial activities.

Job Qualifications

JD with a NY Bar license

Minimum of 8 or more years of liability litigation experience

Insurance defense experience needed

Insurance defense jury trials tried to conclusion required

1st and 2nd chair jury trial experience required

Understands the staff legal function and role in overall business

Demonstrated case analysis ability and a track record of proven trial settlement skills a must

Self-starter with proven experience as a member of a litigation 'team'

PC literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Lotus Notes, Access and CWS and significant knowledge of Lexis or Westlaw

Must be well organized with good analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment

Ability to budget costs and calculate exposure

Has knowledge of billables and diary review with substantive and procedural legal knowledge

Preferred Qualification:
Experience Trying NY State Labor Law a plus
