Job Description
Under general supervision, manage Vulcan’s fixed plant assets to achieve optimum utilization at the lowest operating cost. Interacts with staff and plant personnel to maintain effective and open lines of communication. Ensure customers are supplied with the highest quality products on the market.
Key Responsibility Areas:
1. Safety, Health and Environment: Be proactive in the safety of all personnel and activities in the plant area. Inspect and maintain dust control systems to ensure a healthy work environment. Be knowledgeable of waste products, their impact on the environment and their proper disposal.
2. Production Levels: Ensure that production levels are at an optimum with minimum plant downtown. Coordinate by-size production with sales market demands and long range planning. Work closely with the quality control technicians to ensure that all production meets the customer needs.
3. Maintenance Program: Proper utilization and maintenance of all stationary and mobile equipment so that equipment cost and downtime are minimized and the equipment is available when needed.
4. Supervision: Provide an example of good leadership. Keep open and effective lines of communication with division staff and plant level personnel.
5. Inventory Control: Maintain proper levels of inventories to support local sales activities and long range market demands.
6. Quality Control: Work closely with the QC Technicians on site to ensure we maintain consistency in the quality of our products and services to the customer.
Required Skills
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High School Diploma with 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of training and work experience required. Prefer experience in supervising production and repair/maintenance employees at crushing and screening plant.
Must have a thorough knowledge in methods and techniques of quarrying and with related equipment and suppliers. Must have knowledge and understanding of modern principles and practices of supervising production employees; knowledge and understanding of an aggregate plant operation; able to understand, interpret and apply policies and procedures; knowledge and understanding of MSHA rules and regulations; good organization and business planning skills; excellent problem solving skills and practices; Must have good computer, leadership, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills. A valid drivers’ license is required
