The MST Avionics Crew Chief is responsible for overseeing the relationship in a given territory between StandardAero and its Avionics customers while managing a team of Avionics technicians.  

This role also bears responsibility for providing technical advice and guidance to customers, and internal technicians regarding avionics systems, repairs, and installations.  This person is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all avionics issues and therefore must maintain extensive knowledge of, and stay abreast of the latest technology and products, as well as practical experience within the MRO industry.

The position also ensures high quality installation and integration of systems by overseeing operations and by maintaining effective relationships with avionics equipment manufacturers and engineers.

Works independently and cooperatively with Sales, Business Development and other internal teams to ensure that StandardAero has a strategy and associated tactics to present a differentiated value proposition to customers for our Avionics business.

Supervises a crew of technicians in the performance of troubleshooting, repairs, and installation of avionics systems.  Uses judgment and technical aptitude to make decisions regarding each phase of work.  Provides expertise and supervises work on Flight Management Systems (FMS), Satcom and Airborne Radio Telephone Systems, EGPWS/TAWS, communications—navigation—radar, TCAS/XPDR, DME, autopilot/flight director, audio, ADF, Cabin Management/In-Flight Entertainment (IFE), and other sophisticated avionics and electronic systems.

Assigns work to MST crew members based upon scheduled jobs and the technical expertise of each technician.

Provides technical guidance to technicians on aircraft avionics equipment and issues, as well as service bulletins, directives and enhancements.  Ensures that all technical manuals have the latest revisions.

Monitors hours charged to a job to assure that costs are controlled and goals met.

Communicates directly with customers regarding repairs, equipment, parts, job progress, turn-around time and final customer satisfaction.

Manages work related documentation to include manpower requirements, work orders, parts, customer debriefing, and final inspection.

Performs final “walk around” prior to customer delivery to ensure quality, cleanliness, and readiness for customer departure.

Ensures that technicians are well trained through periodic technical training in-house or at designated off-site facilities.

Ensures proper tooling is used, safe, and within calibration.

Performs “hands on” work as required to ensure work completion and customer satisfaction.

Supports and adheres to safety, environmental and general housekeeping policies.  Promotes safe work habits and monitors work areas for safety hazards in compliance with all OSHA regulations.



Minimum (5) years experience as an Avionics Technician.  

Minimum (5) years experience in a supervisory/management role in an MRO and/or Corporate aviation environment.

Current A&P License Certification.

High School Diploma required.  Bachelors Degree desirable.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead both by authority and influence.  Leads by example and through decisive action characterized by reputation and experience.

Ability to communicate highly complex technical issues in simple terms to diverse groups inclusive of internal personnel, management, co-workers, business partners and customers.

Expert knowledge levels on a wide variety of Avionics and Electronic equipment, systems, and peripherals.

Demonstrated competency to resolve highly complex technical problems.

Strong business acumen with practical knowledge of P&L statements.  Ability to calculate, project and manage both cost and profitability equations.
