We currently have an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Heavy Industrial Project Manager for PCL Industrial Services, Inc. in Bakersfield, CA.  

PCL Industrial Services, Inc. is a full service heavy industrial general contractor, servicing the oil production, petrochemical, mining, power and cogeneration, gas compression and gas transmission industries, primarily in the southwestern United States. Our services include general construction, construction management, and engineering/ procurement/construction (EPC).   

The project manager is accountable for safety, schedule, cost, quality and general overall project performance, and is responsible for promoting close and harmonious relations with the client and consultants. The project manager provides leadership in connection with project matters and strategy.  The project manager must be intimate with field operations and guard against being a “paper pusher.” Emphasis must be placed on high return activities.

The major objectives of the project team under the leadership of the project manager include client relations, project cost, project schedule, project safety, project quality, project environmental responsibility and the productive effort needed to put project procedures in place, to meet specific project requirements and contractual obligations. The project manager is accountable to and draws authority from the district manager or the district operations manager or the district construction manager regarding issues such as safety, quality, progress, cost, schedule and any other project matters.

The project manager is accountable and responsible to provide proactive leadership in:

Safety & Environment
• Assisting the superintendent in establishing the Project Specific Safety and Environment
Plan and ensuring it is understood and adhered to.

Risk, Opportunity & Obligation
• Ensuring project profitability
• Knowing the project and contract requirements and ensuring that these are communicated and understood.
• Enforcing contractual responsibilities and resolving disputes.
• Deciding whether to construct with our own forces or to subcontract.

Project Planning & Execution
• Putting the Project Execution Plan in place (including project procedures) and ensuring it is communicated and understood
• Project organization and staffing.
• Defining procedures and authorizing material procurement.
• Assisting the superintendent in establishing the major construction work plans and engineering methods
• Evaluating and approving construction methods.
• Performing detailed cost review of equipment to be used.
• Chairing project startup meetings.
• Planning for contract close out, including occupancy, commissioning, and maintenance and warranty manuals.

Scheduling
• Scheduling, task definition and breakdown.
• Regular schedule progress reporting and updates

Quality
• Developing and ensuring compliance with a project Quality Plan
• Ensuring the project is completed in compliance with the contract requirements.
• Prompt attention to deficiency and warranty work
• Ensuring the project is practicing PCL’s QUEST and Value Management.

Position Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, environmental) or construction management or other related area.
• At least five years of industrial construction experience
• Demonstrated success being a team player and working well with others.
• Demonstrated success working in a fast pace environment.
• Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment which must include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Estimating experience a plus.
