We currently have an exceptional opportunity for a Fabrication Shop Estimator for PCL Industrial Services, Inc. in Bakersfield, CA.
PCL Industrial Services, Inc. is a full service heavy industrial general contractor, servicing the oil production, petrochemical, mining, power and cogeneration, gas compression and gas transmission industries, primarily in the southwestern United States. Our services include general construction, construction management, and engineering/ procurement/construction (EPC).
Summary of duties: Takes the lead and ownership in the preparation of a complete estimate/proposal for Fabrication Shop projects, including identifying risks and opportunities.
Major responsibilities may include:
• Setting up assignments, reviewing due dates and special survey requirements
• Organizing bid closing
• Soliciting subcontractors, suppliers and specified manufacturers
• Advising chief estimator of key items where special solicitation efforts should be made, involving purchasing department internal sourcing
• Detailed specification and drawing review
• Scheduling estimating team reviews
• Distributing and maintaining control of bid documents
• Reviewing special proposal requirements with the chief estimator
• Maintaining addendum control
• Setting up general expense and preliminary construction schedule
• Assisting in the presentation of the estimate/proposal
• Leading estimate turnover on successful projects
• Completing as-bid estimate
• Ensuring that all bid forms are completed and properly executed
• Ensuring that there is total coverage for all items prior to bid closing
• Taking a lead in the development of a conceptual estimate/design-build
• Conducting follow-up site visits. Reviewing labor costs and production
• Assisting in the education and development of estimator and junior estimator
Position Requirements
• A Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or equivalent experience.
• At least ten years of mechanical estimating experience preferable in a estimating for a Fabrication Shop.
• Be able to perform ASME vessel calculations and design data.
• Must have strong knowledge of ASME / ASTM / API / AWS welding and design codes.
• Experience with the latest version of AutoCAD and Solid Works.
• Experience with Structural Steel take-offs and pricing.
• Demonstrated success being a team player and working well with others.
• Demonstrated success working in a fast pace environment with little supervision.
• Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment which must include Word and Excel.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Excellent organizational skills.
