Systems Engineering
The Solutions Engineering (SE) team is part of the Enterprise engineering organization and provides assistance to internal and customer teams for multi-component complex solutions involving MSI products/services.
The Solutions Engineering team interacts with technical and non-technical people from management, product teams, the Technical Architect (TA) community, customers, and partner communities. When external teams request our time and expertise, special cross-discipline task force teams will be assembled to address specific problems.

The position is a combination of hands-on engineering work and cross-organization/customer communication work to ensure success of complex solutions.  The engineer will work with other team members on planned and reactive tasks in delivering solutions where MSI Enterprise products are involved. The deliverables may include sample system configurations, test results, architecture diagrams, customer guidance, best practices, and white papers.  The SE team will be involved in all stages in solution lifecycle, from up-front planning through customer troubleshooting.

•A 4-year bachelor of science degree in an appropriate engineering discipline from an accredited institution in the U.S. or a comparable foreign university, plus a minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
•Working knowledge, and in some cases deep knowledge, of many of the following systems components:
Generic hardware: servers, wireless networks,, mobile devices/tablets/laptops
Enterprise specific components: mobile payment, voice (VoIP) and messaging (UC), firewalls, web technologies, databases, , middleware, frameworks, OSs (server and mobile), virtualization, hosted services (PaaS, SaaS, IaaS, BaaS) including differences from on-premise equivalents
•Ability to rapidly debug complex Enterprise systems
•Hands-on expertise with a few MSI or competitor products (ruggedized computers, payment devices, POS, etc.)
•Strong interpersonal skills
•Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
•Proven ability to effectively communicate with top tier (Fortune 100) engineering teams and management teams
•Proven ability to adjust to changes in priorities and manage multiple threads effectively and in a timely manner
•Ability to travel within region and globally if needed (10 – 25%)
•Interest and history of continually developing skills and knowledge

The selected candidate will:
•Provide technical leadership and vision for specific Enterprise solutions
•Analyze internal and external solutions in the context of certain markets or customers and be able to clearly articulate both high level overview and low level details
•Assist in creating 'preferred configurations' of both software and hardware components according to product management requirements
•Provide solution alternatives with identified benefits and consequences, including proposed value-add features
•Understand and keep current with company, industry, and technology trends
•Assist in collecting requirements and provide leadership through organizing and communicating requirements
•Clarify needs versus wants (must-have vs. nice-to-have)
•Create plans and execute according plan
•Conduct feature gap analysis of solution features against product or project roadmap
•Set and manage expectations of customer and internal teams
•Create documentation around best practices and common issues for system configuration and operation
•Assist with creation of test plans and assessment of solution readiness
•Experience communicating in the role of teacher, coach, or instructor
•Certifications, publications, or other 3rd party skill assessments
•Experience in retail, field service, distribution or supply chain domains
