Position Description
The Competitive Strategy Specialist will drive competitive strategy development, program execution, and effectiveness measurements for the Structural Heart business.
Position Responsibilities
• Lead roll-out of competitive intelligence system within Structural Heart, including: • Leading periodic review meetings with Structural Heart leadership • Building competitive intelligence capabilities within the Structural Heart organization • Drive development & execution of Structural Heart competitive strategies & programs through collaboration with Sales, Marketing, R&D, BD and other functions within the organization to achieve and exceed global share objectives • Partner with Product Marketing, Sales Training and Sales Operations in field adoption & execution of the competitive strategy • Coordinate inputs from physicians, field personnel, market research, earnings calls, journals, conventions/congresses/trade shows, and others globally • Conduct Competitive War Games on an annual basis • Manage and communicate performance metrics • Maintain Competitive Intelligence Portal as necessary • Own and maintain Competitive Intelligence Guidelines in partnership with Cardiovascular Legal • Integrate competitive intelligence into critical strategic business decision processes (Strategic Planning, Market Plan Creations, AOP, Business Development activities, PDP Phase reviews, etc.) • Create stronger integration with the field sales force with respect to Competitive Intelligence • Create systems for leveraging field insight and information • Create systems for conveying competitive intelligence appropriately and effectively to the field sales force • Manage global communications of competitive intelligence • Be the point person for Structural Heart Competitive Intelligence • Work cross-functionally, pan-Cardiovascular and pan-Medtronic to develop competitive intelligence best practices • Ensure personal understanding of all quality policy/system items that are personally applicable • Follow all work/quality procedures to ensure quality system compliance and high quality work.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree. • Minimum of 5 years experience in the marketing, sales, and/or business related field.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
• MBA • Competitive marketing experience • This position relies on a high degree of influence management skills with product marketing, the global marketing organization, key field sales management and sales representatives, and other global constituents. • Strategic thinking – needs to play a leadership role in strategic thinking and formulating impactful strategies that will drive share in the market. • Analytical prowess/problem solving ability - needs to be able to analyze data from multiple sources, integrate this information and formulate impactful strategic and tactical plans to help drive market share. • Adaptive/responsive –needs to be able adapt/respond quickly to change/new information. • Sales orientation – must understand the sales environment. Must collaborate well with sales and product marketing • Strategies, programs, etc. must be useable by the field. • Technical aptitude –position requires an understanding of structural diseases and the clinical environment. A working knowledge of highly technical products is necessary. Cardiovascular and medical devices marketing experience is necessary. • Communication skills – must demonstrate an ability to disseminate information in a concise and clear way. Also communicate effectively with the field, customers and internal partners. Ability to communicate and present effectively to senior level management. • Ability to work cross-functionally and achieve results through others.
Physical Job Requirements
• Ability to travel by car and plane to meet customers and attend conventions, congresses, and trade shows.
